At the May 2008 General Annual Meeting the membership voted to sell our worn out Austin-Western Pacer 100 grader and explore obtaining a new piece of snow removal equipment for pushing back snow banks.
We purchased the Pacer 100 on 3/1/1975 for $11,575.00.
The Pacer 100 model was manufactured from 1959 through 1971.
We do not know what year our's was.
At a Special General Meeting on August 30, 2008 the membership agreed to purchase a replacement grader and assess each lot owner $200.00 per lot.
This was subsequently approved by mailed proxy with a result of 121 Yes and 41 No.
On January 7, 2009 a 1985 Champion 730A motor grader was purchased for $39,500.00 from equipment broker National Hardware Supply.
At Delivery time the Hours Meter read 3080 hours.
National Hardware Supply purchased the motor grader at an auction from CalTrans, had it painted yellow, and applied new decals.
CalTrans retired the motor grader with 3057 hours showing on the Hours Meter.
CalTrans housed the motor grader in San Bernardino.

Champion Background:
Champion graders were first introduced in 1875.
The 700 Series was first introduced in 1975 and had progressed to Series VI by 1999.
In 1997 Champion was purchased by Volvo Construction Equipment.
In 2001 the Champion name was replaced by Volvo. Volvo introduced the G700B series of motor graders in 2002, which are powered exclusively with Volvo engines.
In 2006 the G900-series of motor graders was launched.

Champion 700 Series I
In 1975 Champion's 700 Series I was launched.
A new generation of grader technology with design improvements in every component.
Champion now offered a wide range of models in a choice of articulated or conventional frame.
Models included: 710, 715, 715A, 720, 720A, 740, 740A and 760.
Purchasers were offered the choice of different powertrain choices which became a systems nightmare regarding parts, service etc.

Champion 700 Series II
In 1984 Champion's 700 Series II was launched.
Cummins was chosen as the sole provider of engines to Champion motor graders.
The 8400 powershift transmission was introduced, other powertrain options used on Series I machines were eliminated.
The 730 and 730A Models were introduced.
Champion 700 Series III
In 1989 the production of Champion's 700 Series III started.
Duramide bearings were developed for Champion and introduced on the circle and moldboard slide.
The rear cowl was sloped downward from the rear of the cab to improve visibility to the rear of the grader.
The Company continued to remain focused primarily on the governmental sector.

We have not been able to locate an Operator’s Manual for our Champion 730A Series II motor grader.
We have located Operator’s Manuals for Series I and Series III motor graders.
The Series III Operator’s Manual most closely matched our grader.
