Nicholson Spring Removed from system in 1993 The pumps and level sensors were removed in 1993 last used as a water source in 1989 Building demolished and cover construcetd in 2000 The spring flows up through a decomposed granite floor into a basin consisting of a concrete wall and a wooden roof approximately 18 feet long x 13 1/2 feet wide. The depth of the basin is approximately 5 feet. The spring was cleaned out in the summer of 1990. A drain is provided around this spring to divert surface water and shallow ground water away from the spring. There are no developments or sewage hazards located upgradient of this spring. The spring water is very clear and does not appear to be directly influenced by surface water. The spring was equipped with two submersible pumps. One pump produced about twice the flow rate as the other pump. This enabled the Association operational flexibility depending on system demand. The 5 year drought preceding the 1993 inspection reduced the spring's yield to about 5 gpm. It was observed that the flow rate during the 1993 inspection was at about 8 to 10 gpm. The spring basin was full during the 1993 inspection.
