William Henry Smith

May 21, 1921 — Nov. 14, 2006

Long Barn resident William Henry Smith died Tuesday at his home. He was 85.

He was born in Minnesota and had lived in Long Barn for 15 years. Mr. Smith was a California Highway Patrol officer for 27 years and also worked as a carpenter, building various Wendy's restaurants in the Central Valley and one in Sonora. He was a veteran of the Army, serving in Okinawa with the Army Corp of Engineers.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 17 years, Floellen Smith of Long Barn; daughter, Lynn Smittle of North Carolina; sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Jo Williams of Sacramento, Fla. and Greg and Linda Williams of Orlando, Fla.; brothers, Charlie and Oliver Smith, both of Vallejo; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sons, Dale Smith and William "Skip" Smith Jr.; and brothers, Levi and Lloyd Smith.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
