Leslie A. Valentine

Dec. 14, 1922 — Jan. 8, 2009

Leslie A. Valentine died Jan. 8 at his Long Barn home. He was 86.

Mr. Valentine was born in Attica, Ohio, and lived in Hollister for many years. He moved to Long Barn in 1987 after building his own home there.

He worked for many years for Saufnauer Plumbing and was in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a 53-year member of Mound Lodge 166, Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

He and his wife, Mary Jane, were married in 1945 in Hollister.

Mr. Valentine was preceded in death by his nephew, David Buck, six brothers and two sisters.

In addition to his wife, of Long Barn, Mr. Valentine is survived by his children and their spouses, Thomas and Anna Valentine, of Hollister, Richard and Elaine Valentine, of Seaside, and Bruce Valentine, of Hollister; nieces and their spouses, Kathy and Milton Montgomery, of Canada, and Rosemary and Luis Garcia, of Miami; his sister and brothers, Mary Hudson and Stanley Valentine, both of Fremont, and Robert Valentine, of Sandusky, Ohio; and numerous grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Jan. 24 at the Odd Fellows Lodge in Hollister. Members of the Mound Lodge 166 will officiate. A reception will follow in the lodge hall.

His ashes will be interred at 10 a.m. Jan. 23 at the Odd Fellows cemetery in Hollister.

Donations may be made in his memory to a charity of choice.

Black-Cooper-Sander Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
